Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka stressed three issues in announcing her official endorsement today of State Representative and Republican Nominee (SC-1) Katie Arrington – flooding mitigation, opposition to offshore drilling, and support of the Jasper Port.
“I don’t endorse often, but I am endorsing Katie Arrington,” said Sulka. “You hear her story, and there is no other thing to do but endorse and support.”
“Katie is absolutely against offshore drilling,” continued Sulka.“Katie is going to work to fight against it when elected. Flooding is big. Flooding is a reality all over this district. I encourage all to read Katie’s plan and be part of her upcoming Flooding Solutions Roundtable series. And, as it relates to the Port of Jasper, Katie will stand by it. It’s important to our Town, jobs and families.”
In accepting the endorsement, Arrington stressed the leadership of Mayor Sulka and reiterated the importance of the issues Sulka highlighted in the endorsement.
“I am honored to have the support of a strong leader in Mayor Lisa Sulka,” said Arrington. “Mayor Sulka and I agree that we do not want offshore drilling off our South Carolina coast. We know that our paramount issue in the Lowcountry is our infrastructure – flooding and what it is doing to our property and our communities. It’s something I fought with in the Statehouse, and I’m going to Washington to do the same thing. With the Port of Jasper – I worked with State Senator Tom Davis and put in an amendment to try to save it. Promises made, promises kept. We made that promise to Jasper, and we need to maintain and keep that promise. The Port has an advocate in me.”
Mayor Sulka’s endorsement of Arrington today follows the endorsements of other Lowcountry municipal and county leaders, like North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey and all five elected Sheriffs in the First Congressional District – Beaufort County Sheriff P. J. Tanner, Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis, Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon, Colleton County Sheriff R. A. Strickland, and Dorchester County Sheriff L. C. Knight.
